Global Webinar: Impact of COVID-19 on Informal Workers: What can we learn?
Wednesday, 21 APRIL 2021 at 10:30 AM GMT+2.
The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected workers in the informal sector worldwide, mainly resulting in livelihood loss and reverse migration to rural areas on an unprecedented scale. The lack of social protection coverage for workers in the informal sector and their families makes them vulnerable to shocks, especially for women who are overrepresented in this sector. The pandemic has highlighted the need to extend formal social protection coverage to the most vulnerable through adapted targeting and delivery mechanisms and financial services. This webinar will discuss the impact of the pandemic on informal workers and analyse various country case studies on social protection interventions to mitigate these impacts.
