Operationalising Social Protection in Tanzania:
From Commitment to Action
From the 21st through the 25th of March 2011, a wide range of stakeholders came together in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania for the workshop Operationalising Social Protection in Tanzania: from Commitment to Action. The workshop was facilitated by UNICEF Tanzania and the Economic Policy Research Institute (EPRI).
The aim of the workshop was to forge a common understanding of the scope and role of social protection and development policy, and the ways in which specific instruments and interventions can address extreme poverty and vulnerability. The aim was also to examine possible design choices, funding sources, and coordination arrangements for their implementation. Once these goals are achieved, stakeholders will be able to chart a clearer path towards the implementation of Tanzania’s National Social Protection Framework (currently awaiting approval).
To quote Dr. Servacius Likwelile, Deputy Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance in his opening remarks, the workshop was a way to “chart a clear path towards implementation of the NSPF, resulting in concrete programmes and yielding tangible results” for Tanzania’s poor and vulnerable.
The five-day workshop culminated in four group presentations, available for download below:
